Has it gotten that cold there already? The Phormium tenax is less hardy than Trachycarpus fortunei. LOL!

We had a frost 2 weeks ago and now the clocks have gone back it will be cold soon. although i think it'll be mild this week
I have lost a cuople of small tracky,s last winter so not taking any chances this year but the phormium has been there for about 6 years now and never been covered

No its in full sun all day from about 10 am on wards
I am going to build a japanese style pergerla next year to go in the area

That's amazing the Phormium wasn't killed and the little Trachycarpus fortunei - Windmill Palms were killed by cold!
At least you're having mild weather now. We're in for quite a heat wave this week. It suppose to be more than 90F/ 32C for most of this week. Today it was pretty hot...and tonight is still very warm. :>) It's not too unusual for November...as it is the sunniest month of the year in San Diego (statically).
