Yes, the flowers can be extremely showy. There's hundreds of species and varieties. I used to have several other species and varieties. They died during the 7 year drought, which ended in 2005.

That is terrible loosing them to the 7 year drought such a shame you lost so many .

No, I haven't tried replacing them. A friend gave those Heliconias originally. I only have the dwarf one of all those varieties my friend gave me.

My friend gave this Heliconia in the mid-80's. I gave some to my dad, later when I moved many years ago...my dad gave me the some plants back. It's always good to give people you know plants, just in case you need some back. LOL!
