Syzygium samarangense - Wax Jambu Fruit

The Wax Jambu fruit is just about to ripen. I love this fruit... it tends to be sweet and very, very juicy! This Malaysian, Indonesian, and Indian tree has become quite popular in the last 10 years or so. It's a little temperamental about our hard water though. Photo taken at Quail Botanical Gardens on Nov. 2, 2010.

It's also called a Wax Apple (although not a true apple).
I had one a couple of year ago. I think it had some major problems with our hard water or soil ph...not sure exactly. It died in the summer of 2008.

Never heard of this fruit, what a name to conjure with....
