Yes Paul they are lovely arn't they. It's said that they keep the real herons away from the ponds if you have an artificial one. We have one at each pond.

I tried the artificial Heron on my pond side a few years ago, the real one came and sat alongside the plastic one, caused a few laughs, for some reason they do not visit me now, think the dogs frighten them off, the only trouble we have now is from Moorhens they are a pain picking at plants and chopping up the leaves and stirring the water till it is muddy, but you cannot have a wildlife gardeen and not expect the birds to come calling eh!

I agree with you Barbara, I love to have birds in the garden and see them having a bath in the water fall and under the water features, but its the herons that I'm not keen on because of the fish. So many of our friends know people or have had their own pond stripped of their fish, thats the reason we have ours netted, but even then there are a few places were it is difficult to net it properly. Don't like this cold weather do you Barbara? we've had quite a few heavy snow showers today and it did give us a covering, but luckily it thawed, but the sky looks full of it, just hope we dont get it too bad......BRRRRRRRR!!

No snow here Lin just very chilly, put some bare root roses in my border today something to look forward to next year, got some more to put in tomorrow so hope the frost keeps away tonight. Keep wrapped up.

Your braver than I am Barbara, I'm only a warm weather gardener, I'm not quite as young as I used to be.....getting a bit of a coward in my old age (I mean my senior years) it sounds better!!! (lol)

lol :o) not putting in the last six until Saturday now, been making bread and Sally Lunn buns, much warmer than gardening.
