Parakeet eating, don't think he has seen anything like this before, bless - he looks cold but is eating and drinking so hopefully will survive.

He is pure white with a red beak and red eye, been with us since June time, feeds with the wild birds and is as wild as they are! Have tried to catch him but he is happy flying around, bet he wasn't this morning though.lol

How amazing! Do you think he is an albino, the ones down here are green with red throat markings.

I think that might be what he is, and maybe why he is roaming free, either that or escaped from someones aviary. He seems to be happy being free though. I have seen the ones in London when we went to Kew I have never seen anything like it, hundreds and hundreds flying in to roost for the night, we were quite amazed at how many there are down there, had heard they were pests but had no idea how many there were until we saw them that day.
My little guy doesn't want to be captured so will let him take his chances with the sparrowhawk and weather, he comes to feed when I bang on the feeder so quite well trained for something as wild as he is.lol, wish the kids were as well trained eh!!

Have to go and pick the car up from the garage in town, but leaving it until the streets are aired, it has been in for a service and left it overnight, wish I hadn't now!! Paul been down for a gas cylinder, he said the roads are awful. No gritters nothing been done, cars slipping and skidding all over the place.

Our local paper reported there was a sighting of a green Parakeet in a park in Brighton. Could be an escapee from Kew?

Shirley tulip they go to Kew to roost in the trees, it is quite an amazing sight, literaly hundreds and hundreds flying in and sqwawking and squabbling for the rights to sit on the branches, pretty amazing sight.

I live in the SE of London and we have flocks flying over in the morning towards sun up and in the evening back again towards the setting sun, not sure why, maybe for warmth, they often 'stop' for a snack on my neighbours apple tree, fifty or so all munching on the apples that they never pick! They are beautiful, but I believe are being culled because they are becoming a pest! Take care, in that snow now I would batten down the hatches if I were you.

Thanks for your good wishes Grandmage, have battened down hatches tight!

I didn't think those sort of birds could live in our cold winters

The parrot expert I spoke to a couple of weeks ago said it was 50-50 if it survived, depended on the weather, he said that if it was eating it had a better chance to survive and it certainly is eating, twice a day he comes to feed. I am keeping my fingers crossed for it and making sure he is well fed.
I was hoping someone would have reported him missing and come and capture him but no-one has claimed him to date. The expert said it was more likely to die from being captured by the sparrowhawk because it was so visible.

I hope the hawk doesn't get him.

Would it help to put out a nesting box for him Mum? it would be so sad if the cold killed him...he's part of the family now!! ;))

There are lots of places for him to get into, shed open, big holly tree with a big cage in it which we put up for pigeons when Sarah was small, in fact I think he has started to roost in the big holly tree by the new aviary. It will be quite a warmer spot in there it is very thick with ivy now also.
