I may have found out why I killed my other plant. It was growing in my backyard where it's very hot. It needs to be grown in a cooler position in the northern part of the yard.

I do consider myself very lucky! I could buy one at my favorite local nursery...however, it's better to receive one for free! (just rubbing it in)
