Thank you all, i have grown a white one from seed called green twist that i hope will flower this year, i know what you mean about slugs tetrarch but mine go for the alstroemeria here and leave the delphiniums :o)

tall white spires..they will look stunning in the dusk...and I may like to be eco but my slug pellets come out when my alstroes start growing, tho I will have to wait a bit this year cos last summer I had 2 hedgehogs in the garden..they may come back.

thanks sixpence i'll post it hopefully later this year, that must be nice the hedgehogs tetarch, i can't use slug pellets as my neighbour called me a murderer for killing slugs last time i used them and it made me feel guilty. :o)

Well invite them to go "slugging" at midnight in the rain with a torch..that might do the trick!

lol i wish i could but she's nearly ninety and such a nice lady, i'll sneak a little around when she goes on her hols :o)

Going on hols at nearly 90? That's one formidable lady! Guess I wouldn't use pellets either lol!

lol she has artificial knees and other medical issues, but still rides her bicycle does her gardening and prunes her 20 foot pine tree up a ladder with a hand saw, so i don't argue with her..

Very wise...discretion the better part of valour?? lol I can just imagine it...

These are lovely, but I have a slug and snail problem too, but I think, if you look at their little faces...they're quite cute:-)
15 Jan, 2011
they really are a bee magnet always buzzing back and forth, i also like the seed pods as they resemble dolphins, that's part of their charm to :o)

For a minute I thought you mean the slugs and snails had cute faces Bornagain lol!

lol :o)

I did Tetrarch, I can't hurt them, even if I get mad....although I have been known to pop some very naughty ones into the council garden rubbish bin:-( It seems to be the very small slugs or the snails which do the most damage. Large slugs eat a lot of waste too :-)
15 Jan, 2011
Well Im jiggered! Ive never thought about their faces! And yes Bornagain, it is the babies cos they are light enough to crawl right up to the flower (especially daffs and alstroes) and nosh their little hearts out!
But I do get hopping mad when they chomp through the flowering stalks of my irises as they are about to flower. Grrrrrrrrrrr

When I was fairly new to gardening, I bought trays of tagetes to plant in a circular bed I had dug in my old garden. The next morning, all excited, I rushed out to look at my handywork.....nothing, just minute stumps...all eaten overnight:-( But I still think they have cute faces;-)

Ahhh remember that feeling well...did exactly the same!
