Hedyscepe canterburyana - Umbrella Palm

Its lovely my mother always said their roots will go down for water so perhaps its going down down down lol.

This palm doesn't have a long tap root. It has a lot of feeder roots which are in competition with the incredible mass of Australian Banyan tree roots.

It ever begs me to wonder how root systems work and can survive, it must be finding a way through that Banyan tree roots feeding some how.

Yes, it getting nourishment and water some how...because it looks great!

Well they always say how wide the branches are thats how large their roots are don't know if this goes for Palms, so if that be so, then they must spread out along the ground.

The way palms grow and other trees grow are very different. The root-system on most palms are smaller and fibrous.

Ahr perhaps thats why its survived then.

Well at least its survived and looks lovely.

Yes, it looks great. It's a very slow growing palm...this palm has probably been there for 25 years or maybe longer.

Small old and beautiful then, would be very robust then.
