Yes, New Calendonian palms have been very popular for about 30 years now...there was a huge influx of newly discovered palm species brought in to California over the last 15 - 20 years.

Do you get different species of insects all of a sudden from so many being bought in, I have often wondered does the insects come from with in or off plants, which are not normally in an area.

Plant importation is very strictly regulated in CA. because of the multi-billion dollar agriculture. However, many seeds were brought in over the years.
