She seems to like fatballs! Notice the goldfinch peeping out from the other feeder? Just noticed him! Mmm might be a greenfinch

oh can just see a little face ~ i think its a colobus monkey.

Well caught Tetra - lovely! We had a black squirrel on one of our feeders this morning . . . still, the long-tails got there first, so that's all right.

Wow! lucky you ! I've still to see a woodpecker in real life in the UK. I hear them, but never lucky enough to catch a glimpse! My flock of goldfinches are costing me a fortune in sunflower hearts at the moment, emptying the feeders every second day, all five of them! Must be about 30 goldfinches out there, and a good few chaffinches too.

Oh she's lovely, well done

Thank you Milky/Yorkie, quite chuffed. Taken from bedroom window on zoom..its way over 30ft away!
What the hecky thump is a colobus monkey Sticki??? You newted again?

We are totally inundated with goldfinches and chaffinches too Karen, we are going thru seed at a rate of knots.

Ive never seen a black squirrel Sheilabub, but I have heard they are around. Yes we had l.t.tits this morning too.

There are plenty of black squirrels here in Herts. . . they chase the grey squirrels, then the greys chase them, but they're just playing as they never catch each other!

What is a black squirrel please girls?

1 Feb, 2011

Dont ask Sticki Karen, you wont understand the answer lol!

1 Feb, 2011

same as grey karen but apparently a natural mutation turning fur black and set to over take the grey squirrels in parks etc, thats all i know lol

As Sanbaz says, Karen, black squirrels are just like greys apart from the colour of their fur! But they've been in North Herts. for many many years, and haven't spread any further in England, so it doesn't appear to be too much of a worry. They are widespread in North America apparently. The red squirrels are much scarcer which is a bit sad.

woody woodpecker song!!!

nice picture..ive had two sometimes three woodpeckers on the nuts on occaision..lucky me hey..

2 Feb, 2011

We've had woodpeckers for the last couple of years--- wonder of wonders was when a green one brought its baby to eat ants....
just one point we've quite a few trees here and some like the Apple and a plum are old well you should see the peck marks and 'excavations!
PS my goldfinches like black niger seeds and as they are so small they last ages-- but you do need a special feeder

Havent had a green woodpecker here Pam..lucky thing

2 Feb, 2011

my mum gets the green woodpecker on her lawn in devon but we had the black and white one in the woods behind the house, a few years ago i found its nest with the baby popping its head out ~ nearly ready to fly.

2 Feb, 2011

oh lovely Sticki :o))

2 Feb, 2011

i was really hoping they would come back the next year but ive never found the nest since ~ the old one was in a rotten tree which blew down.
the woodpecker is still around somewhere but not sure where the nest is.

2 Feb, 2011

Brilliant, we heard one tapping away in the trees, the other day, but couldn't locate it. ;o(
