My Ruttya fruticosa Orange - Rabbit Ears, Orange Bird

My Ruttya fruticosa Orange - Rabbit Ears, Orange Bird (Ruttya fruticosa Orange - Rabbit Ears, Orange Bird)

My Rabbit Ears shrub has been blooming continuously for almost a year now...it used to only bloom in fall. Not sure the reason why it has bloomed to so long. Photo taken Jan. 29, 2011.

Perhaps it likes the soil you have it in.

Yes, it's because the soil is very shallow and rocky in my yard (these are part of the problems).

Its a bit like Agapanthus they flower more if in a pot rather than the ground.

Sixpence:

I've never heard that about Agapanthus before...they bloom here in June, July and sometimes intermittent blooms at other times of the year.

I have been informed they like to be pot bound inorder to flower.

Agapanthus is very widely used here in front of commercial buildings and medians. It's so widely used here because of their very high drought tolerance.

Yes they don't mind being dry, one I have in my pot is dry even shortly after watering in the summer, the one in the ground which is a white one that does nt like the frost but the one in pot white is ok with frost.
