You can see the poor drab little female just on the left Yorkie, just by a small stone.

I shall keep a beady out for the bird returning and see if I can get a closer look at it. Thanks for this :)

Its a pity we cant see more of the back of yours Karen, as you see the Bullfinch is very grey, but with yours its the black head that flummoxes me..its black all over to the neck and chin..its not a cap like a bullfinch..a real puzzler.
If it had white around the eye it would be an American Robin!! apparently they have been sighted over here.

Lucky you, still haven't seen any in my garden. What feed is attracting them?

mine usually start coming into the garden about now , I,ve no idea where they go for the most part of the winter , mine tuck into any grain that I put out TOGunner .... now is the time to cover those new buds on your shrubs they love eating those ....

Lovely.
My friend has them up the road but never see them in my garden.

They mainly ground feed Tog, which is probably a mix of wild bird seed and niger seed, plus insects I would guess. Maybe they are after the lilac buds? They are mainly in that tree and do take from feeders occasionally.
