This very, very common palm was growing in a shady spot at the San Diego Zoo. Photo taken Feb. 11, 2011.

I have this form. It's suppose to grow very quickly; however, mine has not. It doesn't get enough water, unfortunately with out drought.
I definitely know about the critters. Even though, I live in the city there's coyotes, parrots, tree rats millions of skunks, and the list goes on-and-on.

That's the nicer narrow leaf form . I have the older wide leaf that was sold in the 80's. They are second generation as the first were all 20+ years old,killed in a week of rodent gnawing. When you live next a empty lot,you get large numbers of critters other city people dont get.
