Litchi chinensis - Lychee, Litche Tree

This Lychee tree has flower spikes which should be blooming soon. Photo taken Feb. 11, 2011 at the San Diego Zoo. Lychee and Longan (Dimocarpus longan) fruits (which are related) are my favorite fruits...I can eat many pounds of them in summer (at one sitting). lol! :>)

The flowers are not showy...however, the fruit is extremely showy and very, very delicious! :>)

Thank you Andy just looked it up reminds me of our conkers in their jackets only red.

It may not be available fresh there...but, it could be available in Asian markets, canned. The Lychee tree is native to southeast Asia.

These fruits are considered a delicacy in the orient...they are very healthy for you and delicious! :>)
However, most people don't eat as many as I do in one sitting. LOL! :)
