I purchased 2 Cattleya for $3.00 ea. and one Oncidium 'Sharry Baby' for $2.00 (sold as Oncidium 'Alliance') at San Diego Botanical Gardens (formerly: Quail Botanical Gardens) last year. I though it was an extremely good deal.

The best deal was all the Epidendrum orchids I received from my neighbor for free. :>) The Epidendrum hybrids are for some reason a little more expensive...they wanted $7.00 for a gallon sized orchid plant at San Diego Botanical Gardens (could understand why).

You do realize these prices are really really cheap...
The cheapest Orchid I found here for sale was 12.00euros and that was because she dropped the price for me.

I've sown Plumeria seeds and four of them have already germinated. I read an article about a man in the US who got a new flower from the seeds and now the cutting from his plant are going for $300. Maybe I can be rich one day....;o)))

Overall, orchids are pretty cheap here. There's so many thousands of varieties of orchids widely available here. They're sold everywhere...I've even seen them in little liquor stores.

Yes, Plumeria seeds germinate very quickly...usually within 3 - 5 days. However, they can take a long time to bloom from seed, though.

Thanks! Yes, Cattleya orchids are famous for their large and very sweetly fragrant flowers.

It grows outside in shady areas very well...it seems to like somewhat cool weather...however, will tolerate hot weather, also.

This isn't my pure yellow Cattleya. I never got a photo of the yellow one in bloom last year. I'll have to wait until it blooms again to take some photos.

I got a small orange one at Trader Joe's for 7$. Darn thing took all the cold of Dec 2013,and thrived. Hybrid Dendrobiums that I had..shriveled eventually. Delayed death. The purple King Dendrobium is very cold tolerant...but its also a very modest bloomer. Very small blooms also. Oh well- lol.

I've always had bad luck with orchids. This one is now in orchid heaven. I'm not sure what I do to them. :>(
