That's odd always thought they were European it accounts for why they are not very hardy in UK.had them growing across the floor of the alpine house years back ,that was when we had warm winters.
learn something new every day.
Should be OK for Alex to grow.

We have wild Violets here Brian. I've only seen the purple ones, I'm sure there are more colors out there somewhere.

Yes this Violet originated in Tasmania but it seems to enjoy a wide variety of climate conditions. It certainly enjoys our hot wet summers here and while it will tolerate lots of sun, it doesn't like being too dry.

Not sure exactly where in Tassie it originated, Sixpence. But Tassie is mostly cooler than the rest of Oz anyway, all year round. It has a climate that's probably more on a par with England on the whole, than the rest of Australia. It can get very very cold down there, lots of frosts and Arctic winds.
