Sixpence, its' common name is the Brazilian Plume plant because of its' unusually shaped flower.

Wish I could grow this here.

Very pretty! I got white and pink variety cuttings from my former neighbor last Fall. I have them planted now...can't wait until they bloom. I used to have huge pink and white Brazilian Plume flower shrubs when I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I see your Euphorbia 'Diamond Frost' in the background. It's a great blooming plant! My plant blooms profusely all year.

Andy, this is just a fabulous plant. I went and got the pink variety as well and planted it out in the tiered garden bed. It's survived the torrential rain and cylconic winds as well, so I'm convinced the bed could do with some more now.
The Euphorbia is just marvellous too. I have a few of them scattered around ... in pots out on the courtyard and in the ground in the tiered garden bed. The potted ones had to be trimmed right back after the cyclone ordeal, but have already grown back bigger and better than before! I had missed their lovely white bracts.

Yes, Brazilian Plume flower plants are very tough. They look spectacular when they grow huge. I haven't seen the huge shrubs here that I used to see in the San Francisco Bay Area, where they grow to 8ft/2.4m tall and as wide...and in bloom look like these gorgeous flowering candelabras.

Your Euphorbias look great considering they went through a cyclone. I like some of the newer hybrids which bloom profusely all year and grow to about 5ft/1.5m tall.

I'd love it if my Justicia grew to 2 metres ... that would make a great shrub. Probably won't in the pot though ... maybe the one out in the garden bed will! One of my Euphorbias is already nearly a metre tall ... it's in a pot with my Wrightia and is growing up through the branches of that. It certainly fills in the spaces on the lower branches of the Wrightia.

Bernieh:
Most likely your Justicia carnea will grow to at least 2m tall in the ground. They do like to be pruned to make a strong branch structure...because sometimes the stems can be weak.
Euphorbia 'Diamond Frost' which has become very popular here in the last couple of years seems to grow to at least 5ft/1.5m tall...not sure if it grows any larger, though. I guess in a couple more years I'll find out. :>)
Which Wrightia species do you have?

Andy, my Wrightia is Wrightia antidysenterica 'Arctic Snow' ... such a mouthful!

Bernieh:
Thanks for the info.
I've never heard of this species and variety. I read it's from Sri Lanka and is ever-blooming.

Andy, mine took a little break from flowering during last Winter ... just a little break though. As it was a new plant for me last year, I thought that might be normal. I'll have to keep track of it this year. So far it hasn't stopped flowering since early Spring.
