Boreal Chickadee

Boreal Chickadee

One shy fellow last winter and this year I've about 6. More shy than the black cap chickadee, I've been pleased to have had so many throughout this last winter visiting the feeder.

Thanks. I think they are all one family, so they work together really well. Not much competition, or that is my overfeeding them.....lol.

Hi Gt!...How has your winter been? Ours has been long and cold.
The chickadees at my feeder are the blackcapped chickadee...they are smart little critters! One day last January I was up on the hill...just on the edge of the bush, standing in a grove of young trees...I stood still; it was so silent that I heard the whirr of little wings and surprisingly, on a branch about 6 inches from my head, sat a little beady-eyed guy...checking me out. They are very curious and I love their loup-de-loup flight. It might have been the same bird...but later I returned to the path and the place where I'd hung my backpack on a tree branch..the main zipper was broken so it gapped open...There he sat on the zipper looking over the contents of the backpack! cheeky! lol. I've heard that chickadees in the deep bush have no fear of people and will sit on your hand if you offer them a seed!

Hello Lori! :-) I am so not caught up around here! lol. We had a long cold winter as well and I'm glad to be seeing the end of it at long long last. Lovely story. Like one on one with a bird. A special event.

Those black caps, they are very brave, I think because they are so clever, and they know it. They gather seed from the porch right under my cats nose often enough. She watches as they jump about teasing her. You would never see these boreal do that kind of stuff. Things have to be very calm for them to stay around.

LOL... had an cat who used to sit at the window watching the birds...I started out watching the birds but ended up watching Barney...he was hilarious...whenever a bird came close he'd bump his nose on the window and his whiskers would twitch and he would give a stuttery meeeooooowwwww... hee hee... I would pick him up and give him a squeeze ...laughing at him and he would act very offended and stalk away. Great memory..thanks for bringing that one back to me!
