wind farm

wind farm

this is being built on the moors at the back of me. This is from the bedroom window. Not sure how I feel about them. David Bellamy came up to protest against them before they were built.

Personally this is a great sight to see as I wish they would do more of this in the US.

They're trying to put them on some of the hills around here. This area is stupidly divided between 4 different local authorities, and some have not given planning permission. There have been lots of protests. Some hills are safe anyway because they are in the national park.

I would rather have these nearby than the pylons and transmitters which mar the countryside around here.

we've got people trying to put a mobile phone mast on our farm not convinced i want one! i always get excited when we drive past these on my way to Scotland are they noisy??

I believe they are a bit noisy but these havn't been "switched on" (is that the right phrase?) yet. I agree that they look better than pylons. I must admit I was a bit puzzled by David Bellamy's objections as he's a keen environmentalist.

I guess the major issues are noise, the look of them on the landscape, and possible harm to birds. Can't see that they would be any more harmful to songbirds than all the windowed buildings in the world, but I don't know about the noise level. As far as appearance, there are a lot worse things...

There are many square miles of muskeg swamp in Northern Canada where the wind never dies... If ever there was a place for such a facility it is there. It must be the same on the moors, aye?..Don't know that the turbines are that noisy...We have only one at the community college in our town..I looked into it as a way to get off the grid... Liked the idea of individually owned turbines that service an area too isolated to be part of the hydro-electric system here in Canada. . As to phone towers, ickledigga, I heard they offer tremendous financial inducements...don't let them bully you...it still isn't established as to what the effects of microwave transmissions are on people and livestock... But wind towers are a great idea in my opinion...If they can send men to the moon and back, surely they can make a (mechanically) silent wind turbine. Good point about windows and birds, Grammazoo! lol. Just took another look at the photo, Popeymike, Those things are monstrously huge...why so large?
