I know what you mean about them being better in the ground. We're very lucky in some ways, our soil is decomposed bracken and crushed rock on a very steep slope, so it's acid, not that nutritious and drains like fun! So I grow plants that like that.

This is lovely. Wish I could grow this in the soil, I have to put mine in a pot as they dont like my soil, never quite so good I think
