I saw one at RHS Rosemoor last week .. the colour is amazing! Have you chosen something to put at the base yet?

No, I think wood white anemones or thalia my favourite daffodil may be nice, what do you think? :-)

I went off to read about underplanting Magnolias and here's what I found: Don't underplant too close to the main roots or trunk. Try Ajuga Reptans (Burgundy Glow), Heathers, Sedum and/or Saxifrage as they don't mind sun or shade, dry or moist soil. Bet you're in a quandary now ...........

Maybe pale saxifrage then, I wonder if thalia would be ok? I saw some lovely white wood anemones while walking the dogs and fell in love with them. It's getting something to flower at the same time and I'm not very good at that, but thalia is in flower now in my garden. I think ajuga is a bit too dark and don't think heathers would suit it really. I'll google saxifrage and sedum...thanks Shirley. By the way, with the spring, my plum cake addiction has ended......but it got me through the winter lol:-)

Why not post the question and see what suggestions other GoYers make? You're bound to get some good responses. : o ) Plum cake is out of bounds here, still dieting. : o ((
