The Brazilian Coral tree is absolutely gorgeous when in full-bloom. The flowers look like scarlet parrot beaks. This tree in Balboa Park is a nice large specimen. Photo taken Apr. 27, 2011.

Meanie:
Yes, this species of Erythrina is my favorite of all!
Glad to hear your E. crista-galli is doing fantastically! It is one of the faster growing species. The large tree around the corner from me has bloomed all winter long...and now it's putting out dozens more flower spikes.

Fast growing is an understatement! Mine has put on over a metre of growth in the four weeks since I bought the stump in from the garage!!

Meanie:
Remember when I stated the E. crista-galli tree around the corner from me was cut back drastically....it grew about 15ft/4.6m in all direction within 3 months. Many species of Erythrina grow so quickly, if you look at them, you can see them growing. This is the reason why the large branches break so easily.

Wish that I could see the flowers growing on mine!!!

Meanie:
Give it tons of sun, heat and high bloom fertilizer...it will bloom.

It's getting plenty of sun at the moment, heat of around 35centigrade during the day, 1.5 litres of water daily, misted twice a day (no spider mite so far), very high levels of humidity generally, and a foliar feed of high potassium (tomato feed which is 4-4-8) every two weeks. It will stay in the conservatory except on the very hottest days this summer.

Seems to have a very good environment. It should bloom soon.
