I wonder if it's because the sun comes up behind it then sort of goes full circle and it sets at the front of it? The base is in shade most of the day behind a buddlea. I also planted it in a new bed which was clay but bought tonne bags of beds and border improver soil and worked it in with grit. Or is it just a miracle :-)

Mine not in full flower yet, mine as the sun at the back in a morning and at end of night the sun faces the front of it, and base of it is in shade, but i have mine in a big pot, and all it gets is tomatoe food like the rest of my plants....

This is huge this year but the flowers were a bit of a let down, probably because of the weather and maybe because itself and other climbing plants maybe smothering it.
