My parents also collect water in plastic containers for hot, sunny days. I have not seen water butts (like the ones you get in the UK) there. To the right of the photo, you can see the tall palm and bouganvilla (the ones with the pink flowers) in our neighbour's garden.

I agree, we had a bit of rain here in Surrey last night but the sun is now out again and no rain forecast for the next five days. Ugh.

Beautiful roof garden! I especially like the Lipstick palms (Cyrtostachys renda), they some of the most tropical palms in the world. I wish they could be grown outside here in Southern California!

Thank you. My stepmum really has green thumbs. When they moved into the house, the previous owners left them some half-dead plants, which are now bushy and full of life!
They are still thinking of what else to do with the roof garden though, perhaps get a nice outdoor sofa set, or decking or a canopy.

There's nothing like bringing half-dead plant back to life.

I wouldn't know as healthy plants normally go half dead after a few weeks in my care! Hence why I am so in awe of all the great gardeners on this site.
