Mine too for the last couple of years.

It boggles my mind how their nests stay attached to the back of the smooth banana leaves.

They are very good at weaving them there using the fibers from the leaves as thread. The nests hang down like a basket under the leaves.

Randy:
Yes, I noticed that when I cut down the banana in January, when it blew over. It has an interesting hanging-basket like nest.

Holy moly! Fabulous bird! We have the occasional Golden Oriole here (but on the east coast only generally) would love to see one.

They are fabulous and beautiful birds. They're here spring through summer each year to breed before flying back south into Mexico for the winter. I believe this to be the same one along with his mate that have been nesting in my banana trees for the last two years. No nest yet this year but they are hanging around.

How wonderful for you to have them return each year. Hope they do, or their young, for many years!

They're back. These birds usually build a nest under my banana leaves.
