All the borders are beginning to get some colour even if it is only foliage colour but today I thought I would show you the colour at the front of the house

Have put a Honeysuckle (reddish one) and Montana Rubens to grow through the hedge on the dyke side, + that rose that David Austins sent by mistake, so should have some more colour out the front next year.

Re the Acer, having said all that, mine is in full sun all day long and no problems whatsoever, it is thriving in it!!

On the label it did say no full sun aspect but I did wonder that is why I popped it there, the bird aviary helps protect it from the full sun and the wind also. Keeping my fingers crossed it will be ok. I once had a very tiny acer sent to me, free with something or other I bought, I gave it to Sarah and she now has a beautiful tree in her garden, fantastic dark red leaves. She is really proud of how it has grown in just a few years from what was only a sprig. lol.

Good work Sarah! :)) I always think that they are stunning if they grow well. They are breathtaking plants really aren't they. And very fashionable, lots of vars to choose from these days. I have four now, but one is tiny, just planted it as it wasn't growing well in the pot, so lets hope it does better in the ground.

I never bought one because I thought that I would not like them in a cottage garden, but I love this one in its pot I hope it grows. It really goes well in its own little spot I could I suppose pave all that area next to the bird aviary and make it an area just for acers, because it is sheltered there by the aviary on one side the house on the north side and the hedge on the west side. I used to have my metal table and chairs in that corner but I could not see enough of the garden from there so moved them up the garden where I can look across and see most of the plants.
I will have to have my design head on and think about that one.lol :o) a plan is beginning to emerge. It is about the only thing that emerges these days. lol. Just been getting the field side border ready to put the electric fence up so that Paul can put his babies out in the field. It was hard work the grass had grown really long, my own fault because I set bulbs in the grass and of course you have to leave them to die down before you cut them. I think I should have left them even longer but it had to be done cos they are in the field this weekend. Off to cook tea for me and Sam, Paul is on Salad, he will not have what we are having. Going to try to make Sweet Chilli Chicken, with rice, I will make the recipe up as I go along. Could be a huge disaster. Hopefully will speak again later on. x

Good....question is, could you do it again!! I always forget what I put in and how much.

I know but I wrote it down for Sam to count the calories, and then she said sod it I'll not bother. lol. I have done that a lot too, as I am sure you have also. lol. You don't get to be a big girl as I am, (Big being the operative word) unless you eat well.

People come in all different shapes and sizes....

I can only dream of a front garden like yours Barbara. I will never have one unless I dig most the dreaded concrete out, there was no need to concrete the whole front like the previous owners did. But as time goes on...it is filling up with pots and lots of it :)))

More size than shape I would have said. lol. who cares anyway, you only live once. If you listened to the powers that be, one day something is good for you the next day it isn't. I just do my own thing. lol

Michaella I know what you mean, how does concrete make a nicer home, I know some people need it for standing cars on, but why all concrete, It would drive me nuts, keep up the good work with the planters, have you put in tiered shelving also that would give you height out there.
12 May, 2011
Oh Michaella, not a concrete front garden! what a shame for you.
Mum...pm for you soon....

Hi Barbara, thank you, I have not thought of tiered shelving, will look into it.
:((((( Yes Karen fully concreted, because previous owners collected sports cars and had them in the front and back garden, five in the front, loads all the way down the garden too, drove the cars on the grass at the back, this is why the lawn is so uneven :((( grrrrr
When I offered to buy the house they threw in one of their sports cars, but because I lost my buyer, they withdrew the offer. lol

Well, that would have gone at least some way to compensating for the concrete....Doh!
