It other name is Knitbone because it was said to be good for bone fractures and used externally for back pain but can be toxic to the liver alas.

That's interesting to know . . .

im sure it will go quite a way Denise if you dilute it after, also when you pick the leaves you fill with water till they are covered which doesnt seem alot off one plant but diluted after will go further wont it.
not sure on other uses for the plant even though i have heard its used medically, but toxic like Denise says.

Nettle or Comfrey liquid fertilizer
Cut up the fresh plants leafs in to small pieces and soak them in water (use 1kg/2lb of plant per 10 litres/15 pints of water) and leave it to steep for between 3 and 4 weeks-use a wooden or plastic container not metal. Stir the liquid from time to time to help it ferment, then filter out the pulp. Use the resulting liquid fertilizer diluted in the proportion of 1:10 if it's to be spread on the soil, 1:20 if it's to be sprayed on to leaves
this is how i make it

I wish I'd seen this before I cut all the Nettles down at the allotment .... : o ((

You could have made a nice soup too ST. Thanks for the recipe Jiffy but it would have to be a big plant for 2lbs of leaves dont you think?
15 May, 2011
You can use a mix of Nettles and Comfrey are the best.
You can use Horsetail,Camomile,Marigold,Achillea or dandelion, either individually or in combination
