Rhubarb

Ahhhhh my favourite rhubarb crumble (and apple)!!

LOL... mmmm mine too! I have a recipe for diabetic apple crumble...but found when I used the sugar substitute in rhubarb that it didn't sweeten up...rather became saltyish! I'm no chemist or perhaps I'd have a theory as to why...so, if I want rhubarb crumble or rhubarb pie I have to do it the old way with sugar...and then I can have only tiny servings...sad really.

Now that really IS sad!

Yeah...I like to over indulge. having to exercise restraint is a downer!

Well with all that heavy exercise you do, surely even you could have a little now and then..I have a friend that has 3 monthly MOT's he calls it...he loves good food and wine..he doesnt invite us over during the last two weeks before his MOT..he says he's too miserable for company lol!

I sympathise with your neighbour. I watched my Mom go thro what I'm experiencing now. Her diet was strict and very inflexible. I refused the drugs and am working on keeping it at bey with careful eating and exercise. Days when I can't get outdoors are miserable.

What can I say Lori? You truly have my sympathy. But you are not the sort to lie around and moan, you get on with your life. There is this hard lesson we learn as we get older..life doesnt give a **** what you think/feel/or suffer from..there is only one life, so most people think, so we must make the best of it as we can! Your legacy probably wont be written on tablets of stone, but YOU know if you've done your best and after all, the person we live with longest is ourselves so we would only be cheating ourselves if we dont!

lol... I agree wholeheartedly! (not about the pompous bit...I thought you expressed it very well because we all have the profound thoughts brought front and centre as we age.) The oldest one of all is: "Life is short"...and I never really appreciated that until I attained my 60's and realized that the road ahead was a lot shorter than the path behind!...now there's pompous for ya! lol...

LOL! LOL! I have a job walking straight forward Lori..It would be impossible with bowed legs!!! Besides which, there arent any clydesdales in riding schools...

OMG!!! Belgian, Clydesdale, Percheron, Shire, Suffolk Punch, Brabant...take your pick....If you can't ride 'em you can still look! I have dreams of winning a plowing match with my Percherons! Only trouble is if one of them stepped on me there'd be nothing left but a grease spot! I have a great horse book that I've been reading (and dreaming)...but I think if I ever get a horse it will be one of the miniatures...Terry doesn't like that idea for the same reason as he's not sure about getting goats..."The first cold night they'd be in the kitchen to keep warm!"

Ever since I watched Ben Hur, Ive wanted a white arab mare..maybe if there is a next life, I might get one!

Oh .... they are beautiful fine boned creatures, aren't they? I think they have the prettiest heads...(the rest of them ain't bad either, but they have the most beautiful profiles.) Did I tell you that our neighbour has a llama as well as cattle, pigs and chickens? He's a lovely looking animal,about 6 ft. tall....Think I'd like to try alpacas...they're a bit smaller and their fleece is valuable.
But if I had to choose a breed of horse, I think I'd go for a Morgan. They are a smaller North American breed, but really strong little workhorses, and a pretty riding horse as well. They are athletes...with lots of "STAYing" power...they are used in herding, and jumping and dressage! But best of all the have dark eyes that tend to the large size...nothing melts my heart like a pair of dark intelligent eyes. I think that's why I married my husband.

oh yes, back the to subject at hand, lol...harvested the first of the rhubarb...had some stewed for breakfast. YUM:>)

Agree about Morgans, great presence for a smallish horse..I had a pash on them at one time..Jason..wasnt he the "founder"? Got a few old photos around somewhere. But they arent easy to find over here!

Do you mean the teacher who owned the first "Morgan"? His name was Justin Morgan, he was a music teacher in Vermont, in 1792! He received a Bay stallion in payment of a debt....The stallion's name was Figure up until the death of his owner in 1798..then he was given his owner's name: Justin Morgan...and he was a good breeder.

Thats it! Justin..dear me, my memory getting on the touchy side!

Tetra, if you had asked me that question last week, I wouldn't have known either (without looking it up.) I have loved the story of the Morgan horse since I was young...and wouldn't have recalled the details of it's beginning had I not recently found an excellent book on horse breeding that I've been devouring. I don't have much time to read but it's written like an encyclopedia with entries for each breed. the details of the various breeds of horses and where they originated in fascinating to me. So Kudos to you because you were almost "on the nose"!

I love the belief, in Arabia, that an Arab horse with a whorl on his coat, is highly prized for they say it is the thumb print of Allah.

And yes, there was a time I could tell you the founder of the Hackney, the Tennesee Walking Horse, the Standardbred, and a few others. I do of course have the main three founders of the thoroughbred etched into my brain!

LOL... my mom used the word rhubarb as a synonym for altercation! " they were into a bit of a rhubarb..." always thought that was hilarious when I was a kid.
How did that controversy start? The book I'm reading mentioned it and seemed to give it credence but didn't go into details.

I have the Jeremy James book somewhere..must find it. He did a huge amount of research for it I believe.

I hope you find it, Tetra. I just googled Mr. James and read that he has a book about taking a nine month journey by horseback on an Andalusian he bought and rode back to England!.... Plus his story about the Byerly Turk. will see what I can find on our next trip to Ottawa...Terry never minds a pit stop if it's at a book store!

You start up your own breeding farm and keep stud books and plan and build your farm...at least I think that's what it's about from the short blurb I read in the ads. Thought of you. We could be virtual neighbours!

I know there is one that also includes "racing" them..but it actually involves real money, so I steered clear. Not sure if this is the same one.

hmmmm, I don't know.. I know it said "free game" as in: no dues or nothing to buy to start. Some of the other "free" games make it impossible to really get ahead at the game unless you buy "energy" or "farm dollars" from them. That seemed like such folly to me...spending cold hard cash for virtual goods! Not in this life...lol. I'm also careful about sites that require your personal info in order to join a group or play a game (facebook). I mentioned this one because it came up as an ad on goY...and I think I'd trust goY more than facebook to be careful in whose ad money they accept..and who they expose their members too. I may take a chance if the ad comes up again. I'll let you know what I think, ok?
