Linsuffolk, I'm sure it it Ville de Lyon (seems to ring a bell). The photo doesn't show it's true colour. It's a sort of dark red/burgundy colour, much darker than it appears on the photo. It's been in the garden for years and normally only has a couple of flowers on it, but this year for some reason it is covered in buds. Maybe it's got something to do with the bad winter we've had.

It sounds like maybe it is Ville de Lyon then if its a red/burgundy colour Sheilar, and especially if it rings a bell with you aswell. All my clematis are smothered in bud this year to, and my rhododendrons are the best they have ever been, just hope all my hydrangeas are loaded too, they seem to be budding up well anyway. Did yoy lose much due to the bad winter Sheilar, I only lost my bootlebrush, I was gutted as I had had it for about 12 years or maybe a bit longer than that, and the last couple of years it was absolutely stunning. I have some lovely piccys of it.
