Its a beauty, isnt it.
Kathy: Do you buy your shrub roses bare-rooted?
I've been googling and this one, Canary Bird and Rhapsody in Blue seem to be available from November, bare-rooted, was wondering if they are OK purchased like this? I want all the ones you have :-)))

I bought all mine bareroot Dawn, they do establish really well bareroot, except Canary Bird spotted that at a local GC in full bloom and had to have it:-), remember planting them all just before christmas one year, mine were all from David Austin :-)

Wonderful info, thanks Kathy. Going off to look at David Austin now. You are a terribly bad influence on me lol

This is wonderful isn't it. Does it have a lovely scent too? I am looking forward to mine being this tall. I buy all my roses bare root from David A. Dawns. They have all grown well. I think bare root is the best way to go with roses, although I have bought a few in pots at the GC and they have also been fine.

Thanks Karen. I'll go for bare rooted from David Austin then. Its good to know of reputable suppliers that you and Kathy use. I will be ordering in November .... Noted in diary.

Kathy, you know you say you have 4 bushes set together here, what size has it given you - Im wondering if I should order several rather than single specimens.
Also, for Canary Bird and Rhapsody in Blue - do you again set in a group or are they bigger ones? Sorry for all the questions.

This one is around 8ft across with the 4 plants Dawn, would probably get to more if I didn't prune it, do give more impact, most of my roses are planted in 3's or 4's, especially the ones in the bed under the kitchen window, the rhapsody in blue is just one bush though and so is the canary bird, canary bird does send out suckers so does get very large only think you'd need 1 of them, think David Austin does give a discount if you buy three, did when I bought mine he did.

You are good, thanks Kathy. I'll get 3 rosy cushions then and one each of the others. I think its good to have early spring colour, your canary bird was wonderful.
Put a pic on the other day of my oriental poppies grown fom seed, have a look, one hadnt come true but still nice.

Forgot to put Dawn these are planted in a block not in a row, its a square bed so put one in each corner so 8ft square, if that makes sense!!!!!!!!
Just looked at your poppy its lovely:-)
