Eichhornia crassipes (Eichhornia crassipes)

Taken in the lily house today at the botanic gardens on Oxford.
Its common name is the Water Hyacinth, and is a major environmental problem in parts of Africa.

Beautiful, I've seen these for sale at our local aquatics centre, not in flower, were we bought a lot of our fish, put me off when it said they weren't hardy, but looking at this maybe should buy a few they really are a stunning flower, great picture Meanie:-)

i wont dare!! [certainly not on here anyway] ~ dont forget i have just come back from an island in the atlantic with gale force winds, rain and less than 10 degrees.

probably be working anyway!

Lol yes i new it was a problem plant but had to do it just as i hadn't done it before..yes all died but they made good compost !!!

i dont expect blazing sun in scotland but we were on an island and it isnt so easy to predict; first part of the week was quite wet, second part was cool but mainly dry ~ got some blue sky ~ always windy!
lovely place tho ~ weather doesnt matter quite so much when you are in a place you like
