Thanks SL!
I, on the other hand, really like them. This was the one that I wanted (plus a few others too).

Oh wow, I really like this one too.

Thanks Alex!
They're what I call a "Marmite plant" - you either love 'em or hate 'em.

A very striking spathe, lovely colour and markings, is it hardy?
2 Jun, 2011
It was described as hardy, although to be fair, the last winter or two were a little extreme.
This one will go into the new (insulated) raised bed when it's done - the other will be up against the wall of the house facing south.
So we'll see....

I love them. I really would like some more species for my garden but $$$ is so tight right now it is not an option. That red is really striking.

i think its shapes and colours i go for??
detail is definitely important, im not sure how big this is but i would want it somewhere i could see it.
i do think they should make a garden table that has a big space in its centre for plants.
15 Mar, 2012
It's quite a small one, 40cm or so.
I'll put my mind to the table..............
15 Mar, 2012
do you think it would work?
40 cm sounds ideal ~ centre piece for the table with little pleiones around, and those mini ferns???
btw saw an orchid, in the big GC near here, £59.99 it hangs in a basket, no soil.

Would need a gravel tray, and.................... I'm thinking!!
That would be a Vanda orchid Sticki. They love heat, light and humidity. Sounds dear, even for a Vanda.
15 Mar, 2012
it was Vanda, had quite a few flowers on, i would cry if that died and i had spent all that so i will not be even thinking of buying one
15 Mar, 2012
must have been quite a size for that price Sticki...
15 Mar, 2012
Possibly two feet, tip of flower to end of root??
15 Mar, 2012
It's a good size, but a heck of a price!

I reckon they brought them in specially for mothers day, they weren't there last week.
