Clematis problem

I have just lost couple Clems with wilt. But they werent like this. Anyone any idea what causes these dark edges?

I did wonder that Cinders..hopefully thats the worst thing it could suffer from..dont want to lose any more (at least for this season) Im hoping they will survive but they were only 2yolds..

They should be fine if you have them planted deeply enough.

Actually Tet, the ones that had the wilt will come back from the base if they are deep in the soil.

They are in pots, but I planted them about 2" above the crown.

I haven't got one like that But I do have a wilted one , I will cut it down and hope it comes another year !

We have several clems looking like this, never had it before, have put it down to wind and dry conditions, had to cut some of the leaves off.

I think some must be more susceptible than others DD, this one is in a "row" of clems long the railings and its the only one that looks this way. However, in another place in the garden, there is another like it.
