It grows from a tuber and likes moderately fertile soil in a sunny spot. It will also need winter protection in cold spots or in bad winters. I have the tuber planted underneath the prostrate conifer in the photo which gives it the protection it needs and gives it something to ramble over when in growth

lovely plant but how do you grow from seed . I,ve not had any success.

Rose - my 'bible' says you should sow the seed in a cold frame as soon as it is ripe, but it also adds that germination is erratic
