Sutter's Gold Rose

Nicely scented Rose. This one is a cutting from the original which we lost, it's new to flowering and isn't as orangey as a more mature plant..nice though..

Hi Cinders, thanks, the colour should darken as the rose matures...this is the first time of Flowering, and from what I remember of the Mother Plant, the blooms were so heavy they couldn't hold up, so we planted this against the front fence, giving it lots of support...

I love to hear stories like that, saving plants that are special, the become very important to us. I had a rose of my Mom when she came to visit Canada, years ago. She so admired it, so it became her rose. (Friendship) It has travelled to 3 different locations with me. Last year it slipped in a dreary condition, I took it out of the garden, cleaned the roots & stock, talked to it & replanted it, into a big pot. I am happy to say it is doing fabulous. TG.

Nice to hear Adoons...it's so good to be able to help a plant that is in obvious distress...
Two examples...my pet hate, is when the GC plants have been planted in little net bags...which do not degrade as they are supposed to, and we found a five year old Apple tree so stunted, our friend wanted rid...We dug it out, cleaned the soil off and the roots were so crippled in this bag it was awful...anyway after some TLC we then donated to friends with a big pub Garden, and it took off growing like mad...
The other was a gorgeous Rose that our lady wanted out...it looked so unhappy...After digging it up, we found a huge ants nest underneath...again we cleaned it up, pruned it, and replanted it in another section of the border...Happy Rose, happy lady... :o)) and got rid of the ants too....

That is what I enjoy about gardening, the rescues & the willingness of plants when we give them a chance. Lovely story.
