The colour of the flowers is better close-up, Pp. I tried to get a closer view, but it didn't come out well.

This is a nice one! I have discovered that Salvias are one of the best in dry weather Barbara, I'm going to be collecting more in the future ...

I've just noticed the advert over on the right hand side of the screen for one called 'Blaze of fire ' I like the look of that :-)

Well - hmmm...have you seen S. nem. 'Caradonna'? I think that's the best nemorosa. It has dark stems and deep purple flowers and it's tall, too. Then there's S.n. 'Ostfriesland' both in purple and deep pink. I think they're indispensible. I also have some more unusual ones, and one is on its way out at the moment - it's beautiful. It's S. hians.

Do you remember the one I got last year at the plant fair? You could track that down, probably - it's hardy, and has come back this year with several stems. It's S. hierosolymitana.

Then there are S. pratensis, of course, and S. transsylvanica. Lots and lots of beautiful hardy plants - I could fill your garden up for you quite easily, and we haven't started on the shrubby ones yet! LOL.

Ooops - I've gone on a bit, haven't I - but I love Salvias! There's a white vercillicata, too.....:-))

I've only just realized what those 'Blaze of Fire' are ! they are those horrible gaudy things aren't they 'Yuk ' ....

I didn't like to be too rude about them, Amy, but they really are YUK!

If you have a few spare minutes, look at my plant list. All the ones I've mentioned are there, plus others. The only one I've lost is S.uliginosa, don't know why. It just fizzled out! I forgot about S. forskaoloi (sp) which is a great plant. It needs a bit more space, though - the leaves are large.

Thats another genus of plants I will now have to find room for! Do they produce lots of seed?

They must do - I find baby Salvias sometimes, especially S. vercillicata. I had four on my plant stall at the open day this year.

Sorry, G'sdad. They come after my passion for you-know-whats, but I do love them. :-)))
