Really nice, where do you keep it in the winter?

Oh that is really good, I have recently been given one of these but one person told me they have been waiting years for it to flower?

What does the triphyller bit mean!

1 Jul, 2011

I just grow them as annuals. I ave over-wintered them, but they always seem a little straggly to me.

Triphylla is the species - F.triphylla.
Thalia is the cultivar name.

I 'stopped' mine (is that the right term?) because it was going a bit leggy, now it's bushing out well, but the bit I pinched out, had buds on, I've got it in water to see if it will flower.

After that I was planning to nip off the flowers and hope that roots will grow???

Nip the flowers off if you want the best chance of it taking.

Ok, I know I should but I did want to see the flower!

It's your cutting.......

Will it still grow if I leave the flowers on? I have taken all the other flower buds off on other cuttings but I have left this one because the person who gave it to me said they had never seen the flower!
Mine is still inside - is that best?

Mine has been out for a couple of months now (plant that is).

Ok, maybe tomorrow, it looks strong enough!

Meanie:

It's beautiful! I saw a very large one planted in front of a house today. It was the largest one I've ever seen.

Sadly, not hardy over here Delonix.......

2 Jul, 2011

It's very widely grown here in shade. I must get a pic of the one I saw the other day. It was really large (impressive), as far as width, not height.

There was a stunning F.boliviensis down at Hill House Nursery - that must be pretty common round your way?

3 Jul, 2011

Meanie:

Yes, closer to the coast Fuchsia boliviensis is much more common. However, I don't see as many as when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area (Some S.F. Bay Area micro-climates have the best fuchsia growing conditions in the world).

It's a lovely plant!

Meanie:

I'll have to get some photos of some of the F. boliviana. I think the species is boliviana not boliviensis.

You are correct Delonix!

Meanie:

I still need a get a photo of the fuchsia-colored parrot vine for you. I've been so busy the last couple of weeks I haven't taken many pics.
