Thanks Terra, it was a self sown seedling from last year which I transplanted to another area of the garden. I like these for extra height and attracting the wildlife.

I like them, but can never get them to last more than the one season.... and I never see any self sown seedlings in my garden ...do you have them in a very sheltered area ?

Not really, but they are growing in a dryish well drained place, the seedlings tend to pop up in cracks at the base of a wall. One year I cut back the main plant and it sprouted from the bottom again too. Just been lucky I spose :)

Im the same as TT, can't get them through winter, I didn't sow any this year and im missing them in the back garden. deff next year tho, there lovely in the borders, giving some height..

I also have it self seeding all over the place, it's just like a weed and i think the key is the impoverished soil.
My garden gets battered by south westerlies but the site's a very dry one so i think that's the answer - give them gritty soils and you might just find them overwintering and/or self seeding.
