We are still in the 70's

If only it had been that on party day! We would still be out there, eating.

Right now it's so foggy that it just rained. No complaints as we need it badly. I don't care if it rains off and on all day, although it will be intolerably humid. We need the rain as do the plants. Watering can't compare to a good soaking rain.

Texas, if you know where that is, is hoping that the tropical storm headed their way brings enough rain to save what is left of their growing season. They have had a drought for a very long time. That much water all at once will result in a flood. There is a saying, droughts end with a flood for a reason. Observation over years and years I suppose has lead to the axiom. I can attest to it being true here. Ground is too dried out to soak up a drop, and all the rain runs off. Floods everything.

Much to do in the yard if I can, if not tomorrow is another day. Have a great weekend.

A drought here is measured in weeks usually, how do they feed the cattle in a prolonged drought in Texas?

When it gets past a certain point the cattle go on sale.

In think that happens here but at reduced prices.

There's a Texan on GOY Rusty his name is Rkwright he has some nice plants and shrubs, I talk to him most times...all his ground his covered with either bark or stone, to help retain moisture...

Mulching here is almost a requirement any more. It used to be for decorating purposes, but now it's a WEED barrier and a moisture containing device. Finally talked the aunt nearby to pay someone to put mulch around her beds. She spent too much time weeding and with her COPD and 82 years of age she was not getting to it. Then complaining she was so tired.. WELL YES.

Now she is complaining about how much it costs. Sorry, but what is that money compared to NOT having to do all that weeding? She can afford it, because it was an initial putting down and she had all the shrubs pruned also. If only she would get some of those ugly things taken out! They are not all placed very well and she has no flowers about. It looks very strange. But since I don't want to do any yard work there, I say.. It looks nice!

Not very nice, but if I have a suggestion, I own the problem. Passing on that deal. Too old to do TWO yards, ours is enough.

Yep,, Known her all my life... she and her kids are all like that. You know how to do something, they think you should do it for them for nothing.

I hung wallpaper in her very strange room that leads to all the other little rooms in her basement - lav, office, laundry, closet. The boys used to use it to play poker.

painted the paneling a whitewash at the bottom 1/3 and papered the top 2/3rds. AND painted the floor. next thing you know she was telling her friends her neice HELPED her do that.

AS IF.. next time she hinted she needed painting or paper, I seemed to be busy.. I might be a blond, but I ain't stoopid!

Get that from my Pop. He was a good story teller, but he embellished a TAD! <WINK WINK> ME? I tell 100% truth in a funny way!

At the surgeon's the other day, doc (whose office is about 4 doors away and has been there since we moved here in 1978) said to me. Tell us a story Ilene while we do this. I told them some funny story about their property before it was the current building. Used to be a very old farmer's truck garden ( do you know that term?) - means not a small garden.

Anyway, first year we lived here, I smelled horse manure and heard a tractor. I'm thinking- damn! here were are living in a classy suburb and I smell country! I loved it! Next couple of years he still farmed, when he passed the kids sold the property to the doc who built a 2 story building and paved over the sweetest gardening soil in this end of town.

I paid the guys who were digging some money to bring me a bunch of it for my yard! No point in letting that rich soil all go to some builders lot for fill! I had some in my nasty clay soil, and it's still there. 8-))

have a great weekend. we are still having some much needed rain. I am happy about that. Will have to mow tomorrow but who cares if it's raining today?
