Yes, Janette, but only enough to keep it tidy and well shaped. When I researched Escallonia care I found this :
'In mid or late-spring lightly cut back any shoots that spoil the symmetry of the plant. After pruning apply a generous 5cm - 7cm (2in - 3in) mulch of well- rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.'
I've had mine for several years now and I must confess I haven't mulched or fed it yet, but I shall do so this year. I know it will make me feel better ( have I been guilty of mistreating it :-o ) and I hope the plant will feel better too.

Much earlier in the year I transplanted another from my back garden where it was being overshadowed by other shrubs to Paul's front garden. Like yours it had become rather leggy. It dropped most of its leaves and I thought we were going to lose it, but since April it has grown some new foliage. No flowers this year, it had more important growth to make.I haven't posted photos if it, it is still rather an apology for a plant. When I feed mine I shall feed Paul's and next year I hope to prune it back into shape, then it will be fit for posting :-)
