It's amazing anything is green here...as the heat is unbearable. It was 112ºF/44.5ºC or hotter when I took this photo on Aug. 19, 2011.

Glad to hear it's cooling down a bit for you! It's been very hot and humid here for the last 5 days. Yuck! I've been swimming every day. :>)
Palm Springs has lot of springs and tons of water. The water comes out of the San Jacinto Mountains which are right above Palm Springs (to the west). Mount San Jacinto is 3,302m (10,834ft) high.
Palm Springs and the surrounding cities are very famous for their golf courses (golfing)...especially during winter (the high season) when temps are almost always 80ºF/27ºC. sunny and dry.

OOOhhh that sounds soooo refreshing. Not really into golf....but the golf course looks lovely.

Yes, I was surprised to see it so green in this desert. Many grassy green areas in Palm Springs must be water every 3 or 4 hours, from what I've observed.

Wow... that is a lot of water needed! I am lucky to be able to use my dad's well water, otherwise I don't think my garden would survive the summer with all the water cuts we've been having!!!

I do know very well about water cuts. We used to be on water restrictions because of the 7 year drought, which broke last winter. Although, with that being said, we receive so little rain here...it's inevitable we'll be on water restrictions again.

At least you are only on water restriction...they just turn our water off here. Everyone has to have a back up plan where I live, not sure if every town has to go through this.

THAT'S HORRIBLE! Here, it's against the law for the water to be shut off...not unless there's a water pipe break. Or, If there's water pipe work it can be shut off, however, the city has to inform you at least two weeks in advance.

Now you know how bad things can be where I live. They don't tell us when they're going to shut off the water and they don't even have a time schedule....you just kind of discover...oh wow, we have no water (again). This has been happening daily this year.
Things are a lot better from when I came over 17 years ago....then there were electric power cuts almost every week or so. I really wonder how I decided to stay and give it a try....(my brain must have had a power cut).

I can't believe how horrible it is with the lack of information and no warnings. I couldn't live like that.
We had a similar issue with electricity in 2000-2002 (in California). We had rolling brown-out and black-out due to the so called "energy shortest"...which turned out to be a manipulation of the energy grid (it's a long and complicated, sickening story which can be read on the internet "2000 CA energy crisis" - ENRON was the big factor in this problem).
I've read a lot of the financial issues Greece has been experiencing...and it seems to be getting worse...just like here. Hopefully, it'll end soon!!!
