Pyrus salcifolia

Pyrus salcifolia (Pyrus salcifolia)

This pyrus or weeping pear is my favourite tree in the garden. Its now more than 20yrs old and is still under 15ft. The flowers in spring are lovely too.

Wow I think thats a great tree, love the colour, what colour is the blossom?

The flowers are just white D it looks like a fruit blossom but more compact and neat, it flowers in spring, so looks very effective and fresh - just whats needed after a cold winter! Another bonus is it bears tiny little pears in autumn too, not quite so decorative but the dogs like hoovering them up!
Thanks Sticki, I thought it worth posting as it has matured beautifully without getting too enormous. Lots of books say "small tree" but they end up getting too big and casting too much shade.

It's stunning if only I had more room ( big sigh ) !

Amy this tree was quite small for at least the first ten years and you could cut it back quite hard to keep it in check. I have let the crown develop and it has got higher but only in the last 5 years. I love it for the silvery fresh foliage in spring. The dogs love it for the tiny pears that drop to the ground in Autumn!

I think I planted this tree when the small weeping willows were in vogue. salix kilmarnock weeping willow, they were selling them everywhere. That was very disapointing, I think I dug it up after about 5 yrs. This tree on the other hand just got better and better, the new foliage in spring is really silvery - I love it~!It has my award of merit. (RGAM)
