It didn't look as good as this 2 or 3 months ago Sticki. I moved it to get more shade and it seems to have done the trick. I have another that is in as much shade and is doing as well.

mine suffered in the winter but it is definitely in lots of shade.
4 Sep, 2011
I'm sure it will get better again :)

I've got one, doing well, in complete shade and another, not doing so well, in semi-shade...
The one in semi-shade loses it's leaves more, but keeps on growing...so it actually looks quite 'architectural', with the trunks showing...

i hope so scottish!

Fingers crossed for you sticki :)
Karen - someone on here posted a picture of a Fatsia grown as a standard - it looked quite good if I remember correctly.
5 Sep, 2011
thanks, Scottish...I'll need to see if I can find it!

mine is right at the back of the garden, in a corner with the hostas and ferns in front of it ~ I would like a little ornament to put in front to take your eye up to it.

Try TK Maxx Sticki....they have lots of different and unusual 'ornaments' in their home department.
Do you have an idea of the style you would like?
Copy and paste this link:
another project????

Or what about a shiny black urn or those shiny ceramic spheres or a tiny little bird house?
I rather like this:

Or for an oriental feel:

first one certainly made me smile ~ which would be good.
second was nice but not what im looking for ~ needs to be slightly brighter/lighter
third one i like but perhaps too elegant and tall.
not sure what i really want ~ white rock??
cant afford posh statue.
6 Sep, 2011
that would be nice....like this?

you are very good looking all these up ~ thank you.
bit like that but taller and slimmer ~ [no likeness to me!]
6 Sep, 2011
Me neither Sticki!!
that is a great website for getting ideas. Just stick what ever you like in the search box and bingo!
I put in 'boulder' to get that one. Sometimes there can be lots but the thumbnails are easy to get through.

They are all great.
I like your choice, would fit in nice.
The birds/dove one is gorgeous....that would cost a mint!!
6 Sep, 2011
sadly yes ~ and i only have the green sort of mint that grows in a pot!!

You could always make one of your own Sticki! Lots of self-hardening clays on the market...sealants...
Okay...it might not last the distance, but by then you'll have 'got the bug' and be casting in cement! :))
...and, possibly, start another new 'diversion' on GoY! :)))
7 Sep, 2011
i tell you what i fancy making ~ a tall pyramid with mirror glass in it to pick up what little light does get in that area ~ not sure where i would get the stuff tho?? havent quite worked it out.
where do you get the self hardening clays karen?
7 Sep, 2011
Now, Sticki...that sounds good!
I can't help you with where to get the stuff from though, been away too long...
...I do know that you can get 'easy' leading for glass...
...I bet that Pixi would know!! :))
7 Sep, 2011
pixi or lulu will know im sure ~ just been looking at some ideas on goypedia;
lulu uses broken glass and its lovely, i have found where to get pieces of squared glass; small ones, im working on that.
7 Sep, 2011
Go for it, girl!!
Your local glazier will cut glass to your dimensions...if you can find the other materials! :)
7 Sep, 2011
:-))
7 Sep, 2011
Looking forward to the progress! :)))
7 Sep, 2011
may take a while ~ have to make the structure first!!
7 Sep, 2011
No problem....will be here for a while...(hopefully!) :)))
7 Sep, 2011
thats ok then ~ how long have you got!!??
meanie's photos and dinner guests should keep you entertained for a bit??!!!
7 Sep, 2011
LOL! Yes! Sticki! Going to Nigeria to live (!) on 23rd this month!...Am coming back as karenafrica!!!
7 Sep, 2011
oh!!! thats a bit different!!
maybe when you get back then!!
you should be able to post some very interesting plant photos from nigeria?
7 Sep, 2011
I do really hope so, but it's going to be from a (quite large) balcony!! I'm after growing tamarillos...!
7 Sep, 2011
they look lovely, you can make a chutney or jam with them cant you?
7 Sep, 2011
Oh, yes! Sticki!.....and I've been collecting lots of ideas from Plantoholic and Meanie....... :))
7 Sep, 2011
Your pyramid idea souds great sticki....looking forward too seeing the results.
You could mount onto marine plywood - it should be durable if you seal it first.
7 Sep, 2011
That's a good idea, Scottish...then you could fill the corners with grout, which would also be waterproof, Sticki. :)))
8 Sep, 2011
yes, i was wondering about the construction, marine ply would work or perhaps i shall be able to find something old that i could cover??
8 Sep, 2011
I'm saying this without thinking it through, Sticki...
But if it was a four faced pyramid, all the corners would be right angles...so marine ply (or other) sheets could be fixed to straps of wood, down the length of the shape (stopping short of the top) on the inside, with panel pins and wood glue....then faced with glass and finished!
If it was me, I'd have to work it out on paper first....... :)
8 Sep, 2011
i would too karen, yes the four faces is definitely easiest, and it would be much easier if it had flat faces.
8 Sep, 2011
I think you can do it, Sticki! :)
8 Sep, 2011
Go Sticki!!!!!!
8 Sep, 2011
are you feeding a real tiger in your avatar scottish or have your 3 kittens grown very big???
8 Sep, 2011
You'll have to ask her if she doesn't mind having her avatar enlarged, Sticki! I'd like to see it, Scottish! :))
8 Sep, 2011
i tried to look on the profile but i couldnt tell!! its intriguing!!
8 Sep, 2011
It is real ladies....it was amazing, one of the few highlights of my life. I was also in a pen/cage with 2 year old but ex has the pictures of this so can't show them. This is actually a picture of my picture. The fur was so soft - I can't describe just how soft it was.
I'd have this little beauty over the kittens anyday....if only!!!! I love big cats!
8 Sep, 2011
how fantastic!! lucky you.
btw karen ~ plantoholic has put garden photos on
8 Sep, 2011
Scottish...can you not just post this profile pic on your pictures, pleeeease?? :))))
8 Sep, 2011
Thats what I did. It wasn't til after I tried to do it that I thought why the hell am I doing this, I have the picture already doh!!!
8 Sep, 2011

8 Sep, 2011
