I gather that this is not popular... is it a weed???

It's an edible weed. Reseeds itself like crazy. Kind of a nuisance. Jeff and his family make a chinese soup of it.

And all these years I've been composting it!! Think I'll let a couple of the plants grow... thanks for that interesting tidbit!

Lori- When I asked Jeff if he had a recipe for the pig weed soup he said:
"Not really. You do the basic Chinese soup with a couple of slices of ginger, a crushed clove of garlic and chicken stock.
What you can add is a ΒΌ pound of ground pork that is flavored with 1 tsp soy sauce, 1/8 tsp salt and white pepper. Brown the garlic and ginger slightly on medium low heat with 2 tsp of vegetable oil. Add the chicken stock and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a low simmer and drop teaspoons full of the pork into the broth. Add the pig weed and simmer for about 5 minutes. You can also cook it like spinach with a little salt, garlic and olive oil."
Jeff's an excellent cook, but not big on recipes :)
