Oh dear!!
I done something similar with my neighbours earlier in the year Ellie. I was putting up a new boundary fence and we thought it was dead. I took the loppers too it for them with a view to them removing the stump at a later date. It looks stunning now, albeit its a fraction of the height it was :)

It's full of leaf now and does look better!
