This Aloe is blooming already. Typically, most species of Aloe don't start blooming until November/December. Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Sept. 15, 2011.

Nice plants: I do like Aloes. Is that an Agave attenuata in the background?

Yes, it's an Agave attenuata in the background. A attenuata is a very, very common plant here. They typically make very large clumps. They should be starting to bloom soon.
