This lovely Cordyline grows all over the place in NZ. The fields (referred to as paddocks here) always have several, especially if there is a stream running through them. A very common sight as we drive along. Also now being grown in private gardens as a very sculptural plant which adds a strong hint of the exotic. I have a young one growing at the bottom of my back garden.

I will look forward to seeing it Lori. I am guessing it must be still quite small, if you are able to dig it up to spend the winter indoors.

yes it is quite small still but has a number or starts so I suppose I could separate them and have a number of them. It has just started to get back on it's feet after last winter's ordeal...(in the house again...in a pot and definitely not happy.) The neighbour who gave it to me, back at my other garden, left it outdoors all winter but planted near his house's foundation.

Just so you can have a good laugh I will have to post a pic of the cordyline I have growing in my garden...will have to dig it and bring it indoors for the winter. It is in a very dry spot but a little exposed if the temps dip to minus 40's.
