Silverberry in Bloom, Elaeagnus comutata

This little native Elaeagnus was planted last year, over wintered well though didn't grow very much. These tiny yellow flowers, almost unnoticable, were emitting the most powerful fragrance, filling this side of the garden.

A wonderful smell. I grew up around russian olives, Elaeagnus angustifolia, so I've always been more conscious of the smell than anything. ANd the shape of elaeagnus is great too. Definately underused.
I was at a riverbank down south of all silverberry last week, that would be heaven in spring. :-)

Few people think of Eleagnus having a strong scent.I think it underated as a garden worthy shrub.
