Daphne tangutica

Daphne tangutica (Daphne tangutica)

I posted a picture the other day when this had 2 flowers open and now I am posting a picture with 3 flowers haha. This may be the best I get out of this plant for a while so I am trying to enjoy it while I can. Maybe next Spring it will do better, this is the first time it has ever flowered for me.

Perhaps you had D.oderata Sticki - thats the most common I think. This one looks lovely, proves it worth waiting and being patient sometimes.

Yes it is always exciting to see a daphne flower, they can be short-lived sometimes but they sure are pretty while they're alive.
Kath- you'll have to post pictures of your new daphne! Do you know what kind it is?

I would love to grow a daphne, but I think they like lime free soil? It's more the smell I like mmmmm... heavenly.

Daphne odora likes lime-free soil, they get iron chlorosis in higher pH soil. Most of the daphnes I grow don't mind though, I actually add lime to the soil for a lot of my daphnes. I can't get enough of the scent of daphnes, the ones that bloom all summer are the best.

This is a nice one and would probably do very well in your climate. Most important thing with any daphne is having good drainage. Another good one is Daphne x transatlantica, they flower longer and are more fragrant.

Thank you, I shall look out for these, I like them very much and it sounds as though they are suitable, I have very free draining soil.
