Rudbeckia and Hunter Spider

Rudbeckia and Hunter Spider

The little white hunter spider I've had in the tall things for two years now, this year, there were about twenty and half were this dark color, not white. Interesting to see the varietion as these are smaller than the white ones. Still my favorite garden inhabitant.

Thank you Motinot. Funny these appeared on the end of the garden with the new red foliage. :-)

Hi Gt!...it's so pleasing to see the small creatures take up their niche when a new habitat is open to them. I see we agree on the point of having room for all creatures in our little space. How has bird watching been this year?

Oh, I love this spider, whatever kind it is. :-)

As for birds, I had the white stripe and chirping sparrows both join the summer crowd of juncos. It was like the garden has hopping about with them. I'll have to hunt up some worthy shots. :-)

Aphid can be a real problem in interior alaska, they love the birch trees, but I have a pretty clear area. I feel these hunters patrol for anything large enough to eat and I hope they do kill any aphids. They mainly hunt sitting still with the long forelegs withdrawn on top of the tallest plants or flowers. I've seen them catch big bumblebee and swallowtail butterflies. Not that I want those caught and eaten, just shows they seem to have a stylized hunting profile for flying insects.
